I watched Army of Shadows last night. It’s a movie about the French Resistance during WW2 directed by Jean-Pierre Melville. While I enjoyed the story and the direction quite a bit, Melville did a great job of blocking the scenes and creating tension - especially toward the end, I was most taken by cinematography of Pierre Lhomme. As you can see from the pictures above everything has the gray/blue color palate and an understated feel. He captures the shadowy world of espionage really well.
